A word on self care

It is flu season and our family has seemingly been passing around the same virus for months. Coupled with carpool, after school activities, work, travel and just trying to maintain the house, the stress was starting to build.

The girls, while generally independent, are in a stage of need. They are not just asking for "stuff" but for time and I was finding it harder and harder to give them that time. It was a simple headache that made me realize that I needed to slow down and take time to take care of myself.

It is all too easy to continue about the day to day as a parent and not remember that your health, happiness and overall well being need tending to as well. No one can possibly give all of themselves when they are running on empty which is exactly what I was attempting.

It felt so good to take a break, put down my phone and spend some time focusing on me and some things that make me happy (hello at home facial!). I came out of that time feeling refreshed and ready for the remainder of the week ahead.

I challenge you to take some time for yourself each week, whether it be a few hours or a few minutes. Read a good book. Head out on a solo trip to your favorite coffee shop. Grab a glass of your favorite beverage and soak in the bath. I promise, you will not regret it!
